This is one of my favourite 'fruits'. One of my personal meditations is 'the joy of the Lord is my strength' (Nehemiah 8:10) and I probably say this to myself over a dozen times a day.
Joy is so much deeper than happiness. Happiness depends on your external circumstances.. but JOY comes up and overflows from deep within.
Joy comes from knowing that you are Loved by Love Himself and that, in the end, it's all going to be okay.
Like 'goodness' - developing this fruit is all about continuing to do good, even when the situation hasn't made it easy for you. This means that you can also bring JOY to others, even when you have areas of your life that are challenging.
The Holy Spirit in us can help us to be a blessing to others whilst we wait for our own situation to change. There's something in the way our Designer has made us that means we feel so much better, just by helping someone else - why? Possibly because it shows that we refuse to curl up in a ball but we will trust God, and go about doing good and blessing others, even as we wait for breakthrough.
If you want to have more joy..... ask yourself -who you can help? Who can you bless with a gift, or your time, or an act of service?
Will you accept a Get More Joy Challenge?
Decide on 3 practical blessings you can commit to do, that will bring joy to someone else this week. Write them down in the comments below or in your private journal - as a commitment to do them and just see how your own joy will increase!
