Have you heard the song 'What A Beautiful Name It Is' by Hillsong yet? It is on loop in our home right now. And our car. And my iPhone. There's just something about it. It's so much deeper than the beautiful melody, masterful vocals and musicianship. There's just something in that song that digs right down in to your soul, grabs your spirit and gives it a right good shake about until you can't help but start stomping your foot and pumping your fists as you celebrate the powerhouse of our Lord's Name. It lifts you. It makes you believe afresh that all things truly are possible, with God.
It can't just be me. This song has had already more than 10 and a half million views on YouTube. And has probably appeared as many times again on worship team set lists all over the globe. I know for sure it's on our worship set list this week-end!
But we must not let our 'worship' be simply about our singing. Worship is so, so much more than only singing.
I came home from work today and my youngest bounded towards me with her trademark glee in her face.. but as I held out my arms to catch her hug, she bounded right past me! I turned and she shouted 'Mummy, Mummy LOOK! I made you a sea monster!' Sure enough, a Loch Ness Monster painted head to er, tail, in several different shades of poster paint awaited me. Oh the pride in her saucer-round eyes as her expectant stare flitted between me, and her work-of-art. She knew I would love it. She knew I would be even more excited about it than her. Not because it would win any prizes - but because she MADE IT.
This is the power of the creative legacy that our Father has instilled in us all. We stand apart from all other creatures of creation because we make stuff; we make music, we craft symphonies, we build things, we cook and design and manufacture and produce. We really know how to make stuff. Ask any musician or artist or chef - they do it as if unto God Himself. It rarely feels like a chore or work in the normal sense; perhaps because as we create something new - adding our our flair and flavour to the planet - we are worshipping. We are giving of our innermost being to say 'hey Daddy - look at this! I made this for you!'
You may not make stuff in the way that a composer or architect makes stuff- but you still make things every day.
You make telephone calls, you make things clean, you make food for your family, you make things tidy, you make things organised, you make plans, you make events happen, you make money, you make people feel good, you make things possible for your kids to enjoy, you make your spouse feel secure and loved, you make you boss feel supported, you make your patients feel better, you make your students knowledgable, you make your friend feel heard - you make a difference! THIS is your worship. This is your everyday way of saying "Daddy - look what I made!" And it's so, very beautiful.
God eagerly awaits - the original expectant Father - longing to see what we will do with the gifts, talents and abilities He has generously given all of us.
He waits with great light and love in His eyes to see what you will make today that brings glory to this Earth. Oh child of God - do you realise the power in you? Do you realise that you are a creator? Do you realise that you can leave a legacy of creativity and impact that no one else can? Because He has placed you where you are - with those family members, in that church, in this neighbourhood. For such a time as this. Only you can worship Him the unique way He designed you to. No one else can bring Him worship the way you can.
And so He waits, watching, in eager expectation to receive your love offering, whatever form it takes.
"And He saw that it was good."
The Loch Ness Monster was pretty good too.
